On Tuesday May 7th, we co-hosted a webinar with Autodesk and PARIC Corp. We showcased our recently launched BIM 360 integration and the Oculus Quest.

We were joined by experts in construction technology to give viewers a glimpse of how VR can greatly impact coordination and review workflows:

Andy Leek — VP of Technology & Innovation at PARIC Corporation
Josh Cheney — Industry Manager, Construction Technology at Autodesk
Michael Beale — Developer Technical Consultant at Autodesk

Below are some of our favorite moments from the webinar.

1. Oculus Quest Preview

Oculus recently announced the Oculus Quest is available for pre-order and shipping on May 21st. We had the opportunity to show off our Oculus Quest compatibility so that teams can review their BIM 360, Navisworks, and Revit models in VR without any cables or complicated set up.

With the Oculus Quest, teams can spend less time setting up VR and more time using VR to ensure projects are delivered on time and on budget.

2. VR Review Directly from BIM 360

We provided a sneak peek at the next evolution of our BIM 360 integration. Instead of opening a desktop application, users will be able to click a button directly within the BIM 360 model viewer and instantly review the area they’re looking at on their VR devices. This is a workflow we’re excited for as standalone VR becomes the standard. All you have to do is go to a clash or issue in your browser, click “View in VR”, then your team can put on their Oculus Quest’s on to discuss the issue together in VR.

3. Actionable VR Results with BIM 360 Issues

Viewers got to see how they can use InsiteVR’s speech-to-text annotations to flag issues while in VR. With our BIM 360 integration you can stay on top of annotations made in VR by automatically syncing them to BIM 360 issues so that you can leverage BIM 360’s more advanced issue tracking.

4. Working with Our Customers and Partners to Improve AEC Workflows with Immersive Technology

Andy told the story of how last November we worked with PARIC to make a proof of concept of a BIM 360 integration for Autodesk University. After receiving an overwhelmingly positive response we began working with Autodesk and our customers to deliver the BIM 360 VR integration everyone has been waiting for. We’re committed to helping teams adopt VR for coordination and review meetings so that they can avoid costly change orders and RFI’s.

5. Multi-User VR Meetings with Participants Across the Country

After a brief presentation we transitioned into a live demo of reviewing a BIM 360 model with multiple users in VR. The InsiteVR team was in NYC, the PARIC team in St. Louis, and the Autodesk team in San Francisco. With InsiteVR we were all able to review a building being constructed in St. Louis — without a plane ticket!
